Allianz’s business involvement in China dates back to 1917, when it provided fire and marine insurance coverage in coastal cities like Shanghai. In the early ‘80s, Allianz was the first international insurer signing cooperation agreements with Chinese insurance companies such as PICC, PAIC and CPIC regarding reinsurance support and know-how transfer.

In 1994, Allianz established representative offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou . Over the years Allianz established many operations in 8 provinces and municipalities in China. With more than 2,000 employees, Allianz is present in nearly all its core businesses.

With over 100 years’ insurance experience and an international network, Allianz supports the domestic financial service industry as well as governmental authorities with numerous know-know transfer activities. At Tongji University, Allianz has set up a chair, which offers postgraduate programs and degrees in insurance business management.

Core Businesses in China

Life and Health insurance – The first European life insurance company in China, Allianz China Life Insurance Co., Ltd., a joint venture between Allianz SE (51%) and CITIC Trust Co. Ltd. (49%) with registered capital of 2 billion RMB, commenced operations in Shanghai on 25 January 1999.

Combining the best of international risk management and local financial expertise, Allianz China Life won a strong reputation for its customized products, professional training and trustworthy service. The company offers all lines of life, retirement, investment, education, health and accident insurance products and services through agency teams, banks, brokers, telemarketing and online sales to meet the comprehensive needs of customers.

Over the course of its ten years in China, Allianz China Life has established eight provincial-level branches in Shanghai, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Jiangsu, Shenzhen, Beijing and Shandong, and maintains over 60 sales service centers around the country to provide professional insurance products and services to about 400,000 customers.

Allianz China Life aims to be the most reliable life insurance brand in China, sparing no effort to deliver innovative products and a high standard of services to more Chinese families thereby contributing to China’s life insurance market and undertaking the development of its social security.

Property and Casualty insurance – Allianz’s first property insurance branch in China - Allianz Insurance Company Guangzhou Branch (AZCN) - commenced operations in February 2003, offering a series of insurance services including property, liability, marine, engineering, motor and domestic credit insurance, as well as short-term health insurance and accident insurance for domestic and foreign clients within the province of Guangdong including Shenzhen. Nationwide, AZCN as well underwrites the LSCR (Large Scale Commercial Risks).

In January 2010, the company obtained official approval from the Chinese insurance authorities for transforming the branch into a subsidiary. It marks a milestone for Allianz' P&C presence in China and allow us to extend business across provinces.

AZCN will further introduce more products and risk transfer solutions to meet the specific needs of different target clients. Currently the company operates through Sales Service Centers (SSC) in Shenzhen, Dongguan, Foshan and Jiangmen.

Asset management - As a joint venture between Guotai Junan Securities (GTJA) and Allianz Group (49%), Guotai Junan Allianz Fund Management Co. was established in April 2003. Up to now the company has launched nine fund products.

Travel Assistance Services - Mondial Assistance Group, a member of Allianz specializing in travel assistance services, officially entered the China market in 2003 with the establishment of a wholly foreign owned entity in Beijing. With branch offices in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Chengdu and Shenzhen, and more than 3,300 network partners located across the country, Mondial Assistance China has the structure and capability to provide service solutions on a nationwide basis. Working in partnership with car manufacturers, insurance companies, hospitals, banks and travel agencies, Mondial Assistance China currently provides roadside assistance, travel and medical assistance services in China.

In 2009, Mondial Assistance China won the “Best China Call Center” within Mondial Assistance Group and the “Best Special Service Award” in the 4th Best China Customer Service Selection.
